Taken from a 1960's brochure for the Dodge Commercial Traveler Motorhome; "Travco Corporation also manufactures the Dodge Motor Home Models 220 and 270, The Dodge Mahal, Travco Family Wagon; The Executive Suite; and Business Wagons."
Travco Corporation located in Brown City, Michigan, (a division of PRF Industries Incorporated) produced Van Conversions and Class B Motorhomes in the 60's and 70's. I have not found the specific years that this was being done, but I have some information about those forgotten divisions of PRF Industries.
1. Travco Family Wagon was made in Brown City along with the Travco Motorhome. There were also factories in Warren, Michigan and Irwindale, California that produced this wagon at the same time.
2. There was a Family Wagon Minihome that was made along with the Travco Family Wagon at the Compact Equipment Company in Irwindale, California.
This 1977 ad for the Travco Weekender shows that you could get a Travco on a Chevrolet Chassis. I found this ad at the RV/MH Museum.
These ads are also from 1977.
An ad from the Early Years
I want to post some pictures from Earl Simons of Washington, who is the proud owner of a 1976 Travco Van made at the Compact Equipment Company in Irwindale, California. I want to thank Earl for turning me on to this long neglected part of our Travco Family. The price of gas is getting me to believe that my next Travco will be a Family Wagon Conversion.
Thanks for the Great Pictures Earl.
The next picture is the Manufacturing Plant at Brown City Michigan.
The last picture shows vans ready for for conversion along with frames getting ready for production at the Brown City Factory.
The vans are there right beside the Motorhomes.
